ABSTRACT

Scientists want to stay connected with everything that is new in scientific world, so they constantly read several online scientific magazines and newspapers. However, not all the subjects are of interest to everyone. Consequently, a user is forced to do a lot of browsing to find the articles which are important to him. This paper presents a scientific news aggregator, structured as an online magazine. The content is automatically withdrawn from several online publications, available on the Internet. All the information about the items posted on the site is stored in a database, which is automatically updated.

EXISTING SYSTEM

The existing system has many shortcomings associated with it. The Web is now a huge, dynamic and interactive platform, providing millions of users the chance to collaborate and to exchange information. The number of users, the number of sites and the amount of information available on the Internet has grown drastically and things are becoming more and more difficult to manage. Scientists are very difficult to update the day to day news. Nowadays, we seem to be overwhelmed with information: on TV, at the radio, but mostly on the Internet. Sometimes, the user needs to do a lot of searching and browsing in order to find what he is looking for. In this context, the idea of news aggregators becomes more and more popular.

PROPOSED SYSTEM

This paper presents a scientific news aggregator, structured as an online magazine. The content is automatically withdrawn from several online publications, available on the Internet. We called our site “Science NEWS”. Although for the moment, the site is dedicated to a public who is interested in the scientific subjects, it can be easily extended or adapted to other preferences. The application is implemented in J2EE and uses a knowledge database built on the concept of Semantic Web. The idea of a news aggregator is not new. A news aggregator is a software application, which periodically reads several news sources and displays them on a separate page.
The “Science NEWS” site is divided into 6 main categories of articles: Time & Space, Mind & Brain, Plants & Animals, Computers & Math and Earth & Climate. They are accessible from the main page. However, the number and type of categories can be modified. They are stored in the knowledge database, so they can be added and updated. The main page contains a selection of News.
